Sandbox Immersive Festival (SIF) 2020 has announced its dates, Oct. 31-Nov. 8, and calls for entry
10th July - Sandbox Immersive Festival (SIF), announced that the third edition will take place on Oct. 31-Nov. 8, 2020 in Hangzhou, China. Being postponed due to Covid-19, the China's first cross-media festival have moved to the beautiful lake-side city Hangzhou this year, and has finally set its date. Dedicated to promote immersive and interactive storytelling in all media format, SIF 2020 open for submissions of all kinds of VR/AR/MR Experiences, Immersive Artwork, Immersive Installations and Performances, Spatial Audio Experiences as well as Branded Immersive Experiences, and this year's new attention, student works.
This year, SIF continues to showcase and honor the best immersive projects from across the world, and wishes to explore how technical innovation enables new forms of storytelling. SIF 2020 will expand its focus to include art and technical innovation, and awarding student works and pitching projects.
For official competition, SIF introduces its new award Best Technical Innovation, along with its existing six awards: Best Immersive Storytelling, Best Immersive Experience, Best Immersive Art, Best Immersive Marketing, Best Chinese Work and the Sandbox Jury Award. Past winners include Common Ground (East City Films), Gloomy Eyes (3dar), Collider (Anagram), Andy’s World (Configreality), Bonfire (Baobab Studios), Hold The World (Factory 42), The Real Thing (DV Group) , Wolves In The Wall (Fable Studios), Shennong: Taste of Illusion (Pinta Studios) and The Day The World Change (Tomorrow Never Knows)..
Apart from competition and screening session, SIF is collaborating with China Academy of Art to present a new student program. This program focus on immersive projects created by university students, aiming to encourage immersive creations in campus. SIF builds up a platform to present talented young creators and their works to the industry, and help them to establish their industry connection.
In addition to premium content showcase and awards, SIF’s half-day pitch track also introduces award to emerging artists and their original works. SIF pitch track will continue to discover potential projects in global immersive space and cultivate talents in Asia market and beyond, by providing technology, financial and distribution resources.
In 2020, SIF will upgrade its Market & Social Programs. With the purpose to help projects find the right creative, technical and financial partners, SIF will organize specific one-on-one meetings for project teams to meet with industrial professionals. For better presenting their works, extra meeting and demo space are provided for content creators in the marketplace.
Last two year's festivals celebrated the biggest gathering of global thought leaders in immersive industry, invited more than 100 speakers from worldwide, including Ted Schilowitz (Paramount Studios), Jennifer Cook (Dreamscape Immersive), Sean Stewart(Magic Leap), Kent Bye (Voices of VR), Shari Frilot (Sundance New Frontier), Liz Rosenthaland Michel Reilhac (Venice VR), Michael Muller (Muller Photo), Joanna Popper (HP), Noah Nelson (No Proscenium), Jesse Damiani (Galatea/VRScout) just to name a few. 47 immersive projects from around the world were showcased at SIF 2019, and 49 projects were showcased in 2018.
Apart from its main tracks, SIF 2020 also announce an extended program "Sandbox XR Acceleration Program", aiming to help creators to organize their creative thinking, remove technical barriers, raise funds and industry resources, and turn their ideas into reality by providing a certain amount of seed money, access to technical guidance, workshops, communication platforms among peers, masterclass during a 3 months program prior to SIF 2020, and moreover, pitching opportunities at SIF pitching session. The line-up will be released by the end of September.
How to submit to Main Competition, Screening Session and Student Session:
1. Works submitted to Main Competition and Screening Session should be completed after 1st Jan, 2019.
2. No restrictions of time duration. Projects ranges from VR, AR, MR and any other immersive installations are all eligible. Please refer to the entry form for the details.
3. The one who submit the project should be the holder of all usage rights to it, and should guarantee that the project has no copyright flaws.
How to submit a pitch project:
Submitted project must be an original work
Submitted project must have at least complete concept design.
Submitted project should specify the state of the development and resource required.
